Two Specialists Consider Changes in Education Spending

An education lecture series continues Sept. 21 with an expert examination of funding for schools. 

Kieran M. Killeen and Thomas A. Downes will address “Are Changes in Equity Deceptive? The Responsiveness of Supplementary Education Spending to Changes in Local Provision” at a noon lunch program in Room 343 of the Graduate Education Building. The Friday series is hosted by the Department of Education Reform of the College of Education and Health Professions.

Downes is an associate professor of  economics at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts, and president-elect of the Association for Education Finance and Policy. He earned degrees from Bowdoin College and Stanford University and previously taught at Northwestern University.

Killeen, with degrees earned at Cornell University, is associate dean for graduate and non-degree programming and an associate professor of educational leadership and policies at the University of Vermont in Burlington. He previously was a special education teacher in Louisiana.

The noon to 1 p.m. program includes a light lunch those who register onlinebefore 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19.
